The Power of Change

Published by dragon29 at 6:22 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

This past year we were inundated with the catch phrase of “Change”.  The question that arizes when I hear this word is what type of change are we looking for.  We as Americans believe that there is a need for change in our government, during this time of great economical unrest.  But, in all reality the need for change begins with us.  The real change that this country needs to see is not found in economic bailouts, or government spending, but from the people that call this great country home.  The need to change begins with us as Americans saying enough is enough and looking to our communities and states to see what we can do to make a difference.  I find it very ironic that in this world while the economic downturn is in full swing, yet Ferrari announced a record year in sales for the year of 2008.  How can this be possible when the cheapest model that they sale costs two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.  The simple answer is, the power of greed.  No matter what the government brings forward with plans for economic stimulus packages or outreach means to stimulate the economy it will not do any good until the greed factor leaves this great country.  As long as people can afford and be willing to purchase such frivolous expenditures while the people of their communities are starving, loosing their homes and families the country can never change.  We need to ask ourselves the question when is enough truly enough?  For instance, how many people walked into Walmart or some other department store right by the Angle Trees this Holiday season and did not even look at the tree or even knew that it existed.  We were so concerned on getting the gifts for our families and friends that we didn’t even care about those less fortunate in our towns and communities.  We spend hundreds even thousands to by frivolous gifts such as X-Box 360’s, the newest cell phone available, or a brand new car when we don’t even need one.  When there are folks out there that need a coat, hot meal, a blanket, and some that want nothing more than food this Holiday season.  The time has come to change our desires to see what we can do to help the people of our great nation, instead of climbing to the top of our debt ridden societies to spend more on junk that we don’t need but believe we must have.  As we go into 2009 we need to look at our lives and ask how we can make a difference in the life of someone else.  Maybe by donating food to a food bank, or volunteering for the local soup kitchen.  Let this be the year that the citizens of the United States give away more than what the U.S. government gave out in economic bailouts.

That’s exactly the problem. It’s the me, me, me attitude without regard for anyone else. Great article.
